Help from Jesus in the Midst of Trouble
In John 13-16, Jesus is having his last meeting with his disciples before his crucifixion. In these talks, Jesus is setting the direction not only for how they will handle his upcoming execution, but also the struggles that will come in continuing on Jesus's work after his Resurrection. Jesus is a realist: He knows that living out his teachings and expanding his Kingdom will involve deep conflict and struggle. And we need to be realists too: if one plans on being a real Christian, he or she must realize that it is going to be hard. What will we do when the going gets tough? Jesus's words in John 14:15-21 form part of his teaching on this subject and will help us if we have ears to hear.
