We All Have Spiritual Schizophrenia
Anglican liturgist Dennis Michno has said that Palm Sunday is a schizophrenic service. This is because it begins with a triumphant joyful celebration, palm waving and "Hosanna" shouting, and then it ends in total silence as we leave our gathering contemplating the suffering of the Jesus. But there is a reason for this schizophrenia. In this service and the gospel narratives that frame this service, we see the reality of the spiritual schizophrenia of every human being: loving God and hating him at the same time. This up and down story is your story and mine, and it is a key part of the gospel that transforms us. It is a key part of the story of Easter... a great day we prepare for this week. So, do you know the good news? The ups and downs of it? Are you able to see your own double-mindedness and spiritual schizophrenia?
